i never got to see toad in concert. so it was good to hear "all i want" live for the first time. and his solo sound is more to my taste, slower, singer-songwriter and acoustic. and freight and salvage, a small venue for indie bands, is less than 2 miles from my house. who knew.
the best part of the night, by far, was the discovery of glen phillips opening act, a singer songwriter named jonathan kingham. he had a breathy voice like jeff buckley that i miss. he didnt take himself too seriously and was quite funny. i was moved to buy a cd and get him to sign it.

when i told him that my name was sharon, with only one "r" (people in california seem to think my name should have 2 Rs, weird) he decided he needed to make up for the missing r by making himself look like a pirate. i thought it was pretty cute and witty.
this is his "jazz" album, so it sounds a little like easy listening music. but its not. his other album is good folky singer songwriter indie rock. i swear. its good stuff. and his breathy voice reminded me of how much i miss jeff buckley. sad.
